Selected Highlights from Research Findings

Research amongst several general practitioners in three different provinces of South Africa resulted in a selection model on problem procedures based on a rich knowledge framework. This further led to the CD ROM publication The Virtual Procedures Clinic that is now used on both sides of the Atlantic for the teaching of lumbar and epidural punctures, as well as cricothyroidotomy and CVPs. Family doctors and emergency physicians in South Africa also use the system, which is a unique guide to common procedures whereby different aspects of each procedure are explained step by step using interactive graphics, sound and text.
