Selected Highlights from Research Findings
New, improved classifications to assist with plant identification were published for a number of plant groups in southern Africa. New evidence from the structure of floral nectaries were used to subdivide the vygies, which with almost 2000 species is one of the largest families of succulent plants in the world, into natural groups. Detailed reports on the vegetation ecology of Sekhukhuneland, a region rich in rare plants species with a restricted distribution, were published for the first time. This information will be invaluable to conservation efforts in a region which is under considerable pressure from especially the mining industry.
