Selected Highlights from Research Findings
Identification of the novel Beta-lactamase GES-2 remains an enigma in the clinical microbiology laboratory. A highly sequence specific, cost-effective molecular screening test has been developed, specifically for use in resource poor countries. The technology incorporates the use of peptide nucleic acid probes in conjunction with a competitive multiplex polymerase chain reaction assay. This technology has the potential to be developed commercialy into other fields of Beta-lactamase research.
