The assessment of Pretoria medical students’ attitudes during their clinical rotations
The aim of the study was to develop a valid, reliable and usable instrument for the assessment of students’ professional attitudes during clinical rotations. A rating scale was developed that contained six items on attitudes and seven on clinical approach. An accidental sample of 24 sixth-year medical students was used and 6 volunteer registrars assessed their behaviours. The maximum variation between different raters was 2,5% for the overall score and 4% for a student’s clinical approach. There was no variation for the overall assessment of a student’s personal and professional qualities.
