Students’ perceptions on the use of multimedia skills programs in an undergraduate medical curriculum

Multimedia as learning objects was explored as a part of a strategy for skills training. Information on and demonstrations of psychomotor skills were given by means of interactive multimedia, followed by supervised practical sessions held directly afterwards. During these sessions, students could get hands-on experience in simulation while receiving formative evaluation from supervising lecturers. Closed Likert scale-based questionnaires were used in a cross-sectional descriptive study design to determine how the students perceived this strategy. The overwhelming majority responded positively by rating as either good or excellent the content and user-friendliness of the programs. The respondents found the strategy enjoyable. Overall the respondents’ acceptance of the use of electronic media is increasing. The majority used the programs for revision before their assessments (OSCEs)
