Computer modeling is performed of metabolic enzymes from the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. The focus is primarily on the folate and polyamine pathways. The structures are prepared according to homology modeling methods, and the active sites are characterized in detail. New ligands are designed from first principles, existing ligands are modified to enhance their binding affinity and mechanisms of resistance to known drugs are elucidated. Genome annotation was performed for the Ehrlichia ruminatium genome which was recently completed by the group of Prof Basil Allsopp. The identification of all the genes from this organism will have immediate implications in the design of vaccines against heartwater
