Selected Highlights from Research Findings
A research project that employs the structures and resources of the church to assist in introducing complex technical concepts at grassroots level, homes in on the functioning of the household as the most basic and powerful structure in the community. Emphasis is on air pollution, housing insulation, energy management income generation, home-based care and housing. This work is the first and to our knowledge only project in a Faculty of Theology in South Africa, which has attracted support from the DTI/ NRF THRIP programme. The work is currently being expanded from Secunda and eMbalenhle where it was strongly supported by Sasol to incorporate all communities using coal for domestic purposes. This expansion is being promoted and supported directly by the national Department of Minerals and Energy.
