Selected Highlights from Research Findings
Practical theological research represented a shift from mere description and interpretation of experiences to emancipation of traumatised people. From a 'narrative therapy' perspective the researchers engaged in the 'unheard' life-stories of women infected and affected by HIV/Aids in disadvantaged local communities such as Atteridgeville and Soshanguve, while new 'stories of hope' are born. The research is the result of the South-Africa-Netherlands Programme on Alternatives in Development (SANPAD). It focused on black women who carry the burden of triple oppression: socio-economical engineering policies synonymous with apartheid, patriarchy that rendered women voiceless and powerless, and HIV/Aids that targets the most vulnerable, namely women and children.
