Determining the efficacy of a novel disinfection procedure for eliminating prevalent bacteria, HIV as well as Hepatitis B and C viruses form human semen

Novel disinfection procedures to eliminate a variety of bacterial and viral pathogens in human semen are developed and evaluatd. The efficacy of the procedure to remove the HIV-1 virus is tested by means of quantification and a cell cytopathic assay in co-operation with experts in the field. Quantitative molecular analyses are used to evaluate the efficacy of the procedures to remove seminal plasma and leucocytes that can contain pathogens from the washed spermatozoa.
