Quality nursing care
The aim of this research focus area is to improve the quality of nursing and midwifery in South Africa. The research focuses on the one hand on the provision of care and on the other hand, on the experience of care (patient satisfaction). Issues that are currently addressed in this focus area are human and physical resources, marketing of healtcare services, referral systems, management information systems, the use of appropriate technology, internationnaly recognised best practices and the management of emergencies. With regard to the experience of care the focus falls on patient satisfaction, accessibilty of health care facilities, human and physical resources, cognition, respect, dignity and equity as well as on emotional support..
