Selected Highlights from Research Findings

Apart from being discovered anew, the Psalms - specifically their influence and power - are once again attracting attention. Recent research confirms the fact that the Psalms can be traced back to the religious traditions of Israel. In an effort to revive the use of the Psalms in the church special attention is paid to their liturgical impact. Attempts to solve questions like, where do the Psalms fit in, and how can they be experienced anew in a post-modern, religious community, was addressed at a conference held at the Faculty of Theology in 2003. In the last instance it seems necessary that the voice of the Psalms should be heard again in the context of worship and benediction. The book Psalms and Liturgy also contains the contributions of highly respected international scholars who participated in this conference. A variety of theological and religious traditions give the book its colour and texture, while several theological analyses appearing in the book enrich the contents. Insights into the Psalms and liturgy contained in the book is particularly valuable to research in this field. The book has been included in one of the best-known European series with special focus on the Old Testament, Journal for the Study of the Old Testament, Supplement Series.
